thats a UTE, alright.
How? Why? Where? ...is it... is it legal? They want $65k for it, but no mention of whether this Aussie has his papers in order.

kit car title or G8 GT title

Looks like one LHUtes put together. Now mind you, their work is supposedly entirely on the up-and-up. but I’m not sure I’d buy one.

LOL rebuilt title. G8 rebuilt to Holden.
Theres a company out there that does conversions for those cars.

it’d have to be some sort of kit car/self built title, a G8 title would be fraudulent. or it’s not street legal; even though they sold the G8 here the ute body was never crash/emissions certified to FMVSS.

Well it’s not an Aussie Holden that’s for sure. Almost certainly the U.S. Importer that makes the Utes from U.S. Vehicles but imports the rear beds from Oz.

didn’t know about them. do they have some sort of evidence or statement from the usual government agencies that what they do is on the up-and-up? usually to register a car as a “kit car” you have to receive it in an unfinished state and complete it yourself, e.g. a knock-down kit or install your own powertrain. if they’re converting customer’s cars, then that’s easier.

Supposedly, their conversions are acceptable because they replace the firewall. I don’t know anything about their work with the usual government agencies. I just know enough about car import not to be entirely trusting.
But on the off-chance employees of theirs are here, I’ll say I’d love proof that this won’t explode in customers’ faces like Motorex or Kaizo. it’s a slightly different song, but the melody sounds familiar.

that doesn’t make any sense. if they’re selling complete vehicles as new then I think they’re subject to needing crash and emissions certification. If they’re used vehicles, then it might be “gray” enough where they’re in the clear.

Kit car route.

I figured there was some sort of legal loophole if the feds hadn’t crawled up his arse by now.

probably registered as a G8

There is some guy in Colorado that does it as a kit car.

This with a V8/manual trans please.

Then that is definitely too much money for not a lot of car, considering you can get a nice, used C7 Vette for that or a Ford Raptor and still have money left over.

Seems like you're correct. Also seems like they're asking waaaay too much for this, but perhaps I underestimate the passion of UTE fanatics in the US?

Half-assed. I would have put wheel weights all the way around. You know, so it doesn't look weird.

Was the Cadillac CTS-V wagon ever offered with a manual? (I’m going to guess ‘no’)

I agree on hesitation to buy, especially with how crush-happy the Feds are if a car is even touching American soil.

Though it seems like the difference from the G8 and the Ute is from the B pillar back. It’s actually from the bulkhead/firewall as the area around the A to B pillar need to be structurally reinforced an then the load bed is added onto that. It’s lot of time and labour but they’ve done a few (if it’ the same company that did I think did it).
But ye’, also I think a lot of people will happily pay a premium for something different that really stands out but can be easily maintained by themselves or any GM garage.

Possibly with the v6 or something. Not sure though.

Yes it was, other Barry, yes it was.

I’ve driven the V Wagon in both automatic and manual forms, and while the manual is more fun, the automatic is the hot setup if you want to go fast.

Yeah the cts v wagon was available with the manual they are just super rare and when one does go up for sale it’s usually sold relatively quickly

Actually when you take into consideration the amount of work it takes to make one it’s a fair price. Just because you won’t pay for it doesn’t mean it’s a bad deal

Looks like one of those converts where they take a Pontiac G8 or some such and modify it with Holden parts / add a bed to it, but the VIN is still Pontiac G8, so it’s legal AFAIK?
Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.
![]() 07/25/2016 at 16:06 |

Well, yah. It doesn’t get more niche than this. No doubt it took many hours of work but at the end of the day it’s 2-seater with a pick-up bed. If it floats your boat, rock that Hell-Camino.

Yeah, other commenters suggest this is a heavily modified Pontiac G8 conversion. An interesting idea, but it's not for me...
